Women Photographers 1900–1975: A Legacy of Light

Both an inspiring celebration and a critical realignment of the canon, this powerful, poetic volume connects the lives of more than 80 photographers, from Florence Henri to Joan Jonas

Featuring the work and stories of more than 80 artists, Women Photographers 1900–1975: A Legacy of Light is a polyphonic tribute to the often overlooked contributions of women to the history of modern photography. Operating across genres, generations and cultures, and navigating the rapidly shifting tides of social change, both storied figures and independent voices challenged conventions and expanded the possibilities of photographic expression. This book not only recovers voices left out of mainstream narratives but also reframes the way we understand photography's evolution. It is essential for anyone interested in art history, gender studies or the transformative power of visual storytelling.
Photographers include: Berenice Abbott, Lola Álvarez-Bravo, Diane Arbus, Gertrud Arndt, Ellen Auerbach, Ruth Bernhard, Margaret Bourke-White, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Florence Henri, Kati Horna, Lotte Jacobi, Germaine Krull, Lucia Moholy, Dora Maar, Dorothea Lange, Helen Levitt, Ruth Orkin, Elsa Thiemann, Marion Post Wolcott, Francesca Woodman, Eiko Yamazawa.
