Kate Cycling Cycling Down The Boardwalk - Hyper Rare by Sam Haskins
A Cowboy Kate favourite. In the previous pages Kate is seen dressing to go to the saloon and then, moments later, there she is, cycling naked down the boardwalk. At that moment she didn’t have a care in the world, little did she know she was heading straight into a miscarriage of justice. How she extricated herself established Kate - without the help of any men - as a fictional heroine. Sam often loved to weave light hearted wry humour and unexpected juxtaposition into serious photography and this image is a perfect example of that.
“Every art director’s shelf looks empty without it”
Jonathan Heaf writing in 2007 about Cowboy Kate (1964) as part of an article for COS on the most influential fashion, style and design books of the last 100 years.
This image was recently copied by Tom Ford for the video promotion of their new male fragrance, Ombré Leather Parfum.
Print Specs: This is a 10” x 12” (29.0cm x 40.0cm) print, a classic size for the archive. A Vintage silver gelatin print, produced by Sam in-house in 1963. Slightly cropped on the right from the version that appears in ‘Cowboy Kate & Other Stories’ (1964).
Condition: The print is in excellent condition. The images are not generic, they are produced from the print referred to in this listing.
Rarity: As with many images in the archive, Sam’s profilic creativity was never directed towards volume printing. There are only two known copies of this print at this scale and this is the last available copy at this size.
