Steidl

Steidl is a world-renowned publishing house founded by Gerhard Steidl in Göttingen, Germany, with a legacy rooted in precision, artistry, and a deep reverence for the printed book. Since the 1970s, Steidl has expanded from political non-fiction into literature, art, and photography—publishing iconic works by Nobel Laureates like Günter Grass and Halldór Laxness, as well as celebrated photographers and artists such as Robert Frank, Karl Lagerfeld, and Dayanita Singh.

Every Steidl book is a meticulous creation, with Gerhard Steidl personally selecting materials and overseeing production to ensure exceptional quality. More than a publisher, Steidl is a curator of visual and literary culture—bringing artist visions to life in book form and through international exhibitions. With a workshop in Göttingen that’s become a destination for creatives worldwide, Steidl continues to set the global standard for excellence in art publishing.
