Mr Mittens
Founded by Belgian-born Stéphanie Caulier, the brand's journey began when she moved to Australia for love and, during a trip to New York in 2007, rediscovered her childhood love for knitting. Inspired by a knitting café, she returned to Australia with the idea of creating her own knitwear label.
With no formal training but a lifetime of knitting experience, Caulier launched her first collection, known for its signature reverse purl stitch. Her pieces quickly caught the eye of premium boutiques in Belgium, leading to the brand’s first orders. In a quirky nod to a beloved children’s story, she named her label Mr Mittens, after a mischievous cat.
Caulier rejected mass production, choosing instead to work with small teams of local knitters who handcraft each garment. Her commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship is reflected in the label's motto: "Heartworking knitwear."
In just a few seasons, Mr Mittens grew into an internationally recognized knitwear brand, beloved by fashion influencers like Chiara Ferragni and Leandra Medine. Known for its timeless, high-quality pieces made from 100% wool or Pima cotton, the brand is now sold in over 75 boutiques worldwide, including Matches and Net-A-Porter.
After the birth of her first daughter, Caulier returned to Antwerp in 2016, where she continues to lead Mr Mittens, supported by a small, dedicated team.
