Hartford was founded by Yves Chareton in the United States in 1979, with a vision of reinterpreting American wardrobe classics through a modern lens. The brand began after a chance encounter with a New York manufacturer who supplied vintage Oxford and chambray fabrics, inspiring Hartford’s first signature shirts. A few years later, the studio relocated to Paris, where the brand expanded its collections and built a reputation for exceptional quality. Blending European influences with a relaxed West Coast aesthetic, Hartford quickly earned a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic.
