Anchal Project is a non-profit social enterprise that merges design, sustainability, and social impact to empower marginalized women in India through fair-wage careers in eco-friendly textile production. Founded in 2010 by sisters Colleen and Maggie Clines, Anchal was inspired by their shared belief in the transformative power of design to address social and environmental challenges. What began with $400 and a few sewing machines has grown into a global movement that provides artisans with valuable skills training, education, health resources, and community support.

Rooted in the Hindi word “Anchal,” meaning both “shelter” and the comforting edge of a sari, the brand symbolizes protection, creativity, and empowerment. Working closely with trusted local NGOs in Rajasthan, India, Anchal champions local leadership and sustainable craftsmanship. Each handmade textile blends traditional techniques with modern design, reflecting the artisans’ stories while promoting ethical production and environmental responsibility.
